Thank you to THE STRANGER, The Seattle Times, the Municipal League, the Alki Foundation, the 34th Dem’s, the 43rd Dem’s, the 46th Dem’s, the Young Dem’s of King County, the Executive Board of the King County Democrats for their endorsement of my candidacy. I promise to work VERY hard to justify your faith in my abilities. We CAN transform the educational experience for all students in Seattle, so EACH child realizes their potential and is prepared for the 21st century, if we work together as a community towards this one goal – the best possible education for our children.

Only a few people whom I have met understand that this State has one paramount duty: educate our kids. Kay Smith-Blum understands that it will take bold actions to transform our sinking education system into one that prepares students for the 21st century. Kay gets it, where so few do. Extended school days, language immersion, early childhood education, delivering core academics during hours students actually learn: Kay will lead us to the change we need on the Seattle School Board.

The Elementary and Secondary Education Act defines the arts as a core subject, and the arts play a significant role in children’s development and learning process….however, recent NAEP results found that only 57% of 8th graders attended schools where music instruction was offered at least 3 to 4 times per week, and only 47% attended schools where the visual arts were offered that often.
